Don’t take this the wrong way, but I think it has more to do with the fact that your basic family sedan these days has almost double the HP. With so many cars going turbo the last few years (and gaining more gears) acceleration numbers are pretty impressive compared to 5 years ago. I remember when a 6 second 0-60 was fast. STI’s, Evos, ST’s are the new “civics”. Those are the cars people tend to want to race.

I’ve noticed it depends on where you are city-wise. I live in Austin which has a shitty-nonexistant car culture for the most part. But when I am back in houston where I grew up, every other bro truck or ricer tries to race even if i am in my wagon
